| Customer Reviews:
Very nice November 10, 2008 I've had this router running nonstop for about two months now, with no problems whatsoever. We have three wireless computers that can connect from anywhere in the house, and we have not experienced any dropped connections. The speed is excellent and consistent. The router's USB port allows us to connect a hard drive which can be accessed by any computer on our network--a very handy feature.
I noticed some of the reviewers of this product complained about the router overheating or running hot, so I purchased an iron grate from Target (the type used for placing under hot cooking pots and pans to protect countertops and tabletops) and set the router on top of this. I don't know if it was necessary or not--but since we haven't had any problems, the $7.99 I spent on the grate seems a reasonable insurance policy.
Linksys quality deteriorating, very disappointing November 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my 3rd Linksys router and I definitely feel that it is not what it used to be.
This router has very nice features, like the external usb support, FTP server, DynDNS support and of curse the dual band.
Well, the connection to the 5GHz network is quite fragile, disconnects quite a lot and also has low signal (and I live in a small 1br apt). So most of the time I work on the old 2.4Ghz network.
Other than that, the FTP server is a cool feature, easy way for sharing files with family and friends, but guess what, it does not support resume, so my friend uploaded a big file, got disconnected after 10 hours, and couldn't resume the upload, what were they thinking ?!!
Sometimes the router "loose" the connection to the modem, you can push hundred times on the "renew ip address" on console management program, but nothing. Only endless restarts may cause it to take ip once again. now my router management console does not respond, just changed something in the FTP configuration and the software is not responding, go figure...
Bottom, DON'T buy unless you must have N router with external usb support.
Linksys Wireless Router November 2, 2008 At the end of the day this did not increase my home bandwith as I thought it would. Plus side easy set up, everything work with everything I have at home. If this is your first router this is a good deal. If you have something at home already look over the specs.
Poor wireless performance November 2, 2008 I bought the dual band WRT610N wireless and the WUSB600N dual band USB adapter abt two weeks back and have been greatly disapponited by the very POOR performance of this particular Linksys product.
Signal strength between the adapter and the wireless router is always poor (previously good to excellent on my WRT54G router) on both the 5Mhz ans 2.4Mhz band. This is only a distance of abt 10-12meters with a concrete wall in between.
Calls to online chat support and phone support did not help.... Updating the router to the latest firmware (B18) and adapter to the latest driver which did not significantly improve the poor performance. All other measures suggested by tech support (including turning off the 5MHz radio-antennae?!?) did not help either.
Online search revealed multiple posts on many blogs and forums complaining abt the poor performance (and heating problem) of this particular product...
Moving the wireless access point and adapter nearer to each other to abt a distance of 5-6meters between them did significantly improve the performance but it totally defeats the purpose of spending so much money to buy something which did not work as advertised....
For the time being, my trusty old WRT54GS is back again to serve me until Linksys figures out hot to fix this mess with the WRT610N...
Don't Buy This Product November 1, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This item has a manufacturers defect. There is a hardware issue that Linksys has yet to resolve and they will not refund your money if you buy this product. The dual bands overheat and drop your connection. Do not buy this product until they've addressed this issue. The only version available is version one of this product. See the two links below for more details about this issue.
