Amazon.com Review
As the reigning rabbi on the mysteries of golf from 100 yards in, Pelz has earned the right to anoint his expansive instruction on the short game a "Bible." A scientist by training, he's analyzed the macros and dissected the micros to come up with a gospel for pros (Lee Janzen, Vijay Singh, and Anika Sorenstam, to name a few disciples) and weekend hackers alike. Pelz fills his scripture with photos, illustrations, charts, and plenty of sage advice on pitching, chipping, sandplay, putting, equipment, execution, mechanics, technique, practice, attitude, lots of questions, and plenty of answers. Much of the Short Game Bible is pretty sophisticated stuff aimed toward better players--or, at least, players who take their golf seriously. But its basics are appropriate to any skill level of the game: Accurately assess your own weaknesses, and then go about improving them systematically with the author's carefully researched and tested plan. It seems so obvious, but the truth is, most golfers either beat balls on the range in search of distance or slave over eight-foot putts on the practice green; they fail to pay enough attention to the shots in between. Pelz does the math for you here; his figures add up, so that yours can go down--the golfing equivalent of forgiving sins and absolving trespasses. --Jeff Silverman

Product Description
By DAVE PELZ. Daves approach to golf is easy to understand: 80 percent of the strokes golfers lose to par are determined by their play within 100 yards of the green - the crucial scoring game. A former physicist for NASA, Dave brings a scientific rigor to his research and instruction that has made him the top short-game expert in the world. Now Dave shares, for the first time, the understanding and techniques he has taught the pros, including a wide array of innovative tests and exercises for mastering those deceptive and high-pressure shots of the short game. The first book by best-selling author and internationally revered instructor Dave Pelz since Putt Like the Pros, this new offering can show you the way to lower scores by improving your short game. Packed with all the knowledge, charts, and photos needed to learn from the master, Dave Pelzs Short Game Bible is the essential book for every golfer. Covering everything golfers need to know about how to improve their short game, Dave Pelzs Short Game Bible can - and will - help you to consistently shoot lower scores.

4 out of 5 stars best on the short game   December 21, 2008
I am new to golf but after a few years really understand the importance of the short game as I see most of my score evaporate within 40 yards of the green. Although David Pelz has developed a system that makes sense and most likely works you have to spend a lot of time getting to that point. That said, he gives more useful information about how to play the short game than anything else I have read. The book is a bit repetitive but I think that is his way of bringing the point home. As an engineer I can appreciate his use of scientific methods to show how certain clubs hit a certain distance will go to the pin. It is this kind of information that I can take to the course. I will not live long enough to use his 3x4 system as I would have to golf daily for hours to build up his prescribed data base! I have read and reread this book 4 times or more. I quess that is why it is called the short game BIBLE. It would have gotten 5 stars if the photos were better and more current as well as more of them.

5 out of 5 stars Best in class for short game improvement advise   December 13, 2008
Dave Pelz has provided the best in class advices for improving short game for all level of golfer. After reading and practicing step-by-step techniques given in this book. I have a much better understanding of short game and how to improve them. Although it is a thick book (as a text book), but I do enjoy reading and learning from the book very much.

I strongly recommend this book to a serious golfer who would like to improve his short game skill. I just love the book!

3 out of 5 stars Bad science   October 14, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

The good:
A lot of information and opinion about the short game in one place.

The bad:
Bad science. Example: a table (Figure 2.8.1, p. 20) showing data results expressed to tenths of a percent, based on a sample of five players!

Inflated. The useful information could have been presented in about 10% of the book's 429 pages.

Flagrant salesmanship. Items offered for sale include The Pelz Report, Dave Pelz Scoring Game Schools, Dave Pelz Scoring Game Tour, and thirteen different "learning aids."

Shameless self-aggrandizement.

Not user-friendly. Example: no index.
