great book holder October 28, 2008 love this bookholder. simply does the job. it folds so it doesn't take any space when it's not used.
Wire Study Stand September 8, 2008 This wire study stand is simple in design, so I was expecting it's use to be basic. I wasn't thrown off by this expectation.
Pros: - Holds books open to be easily read as simultaneously typing, drawing, free-hand writing, etc. - Can hold many book sizes. - Is relatively compact, and is also very durable.
Cons: - The metal "arms" that hold it upright seem to be a bit uneven in design, so you have to adjust it in "just that right" way, or else it tilts one way, and then tilts the other way.. - The metal "cradle" that holds the book doesn't allow for a large text book to be adjusted easily; the width is narrow, compared with a text book, so you have to get it balanced and be careful not to knock it over; the depth of the "cradle" is also narrow, so if you have a book of many hundred pages, it's not very fun changing pages. You have to physically lift the book flip the page, shimmy it back down. This is fine if you're trying to focus on those two open pages at a time, but if you're skimming quickly, and typing along as you read, then it can be a bit tedious to take the time, every time, to lift flip, shimmy.. lift flip, shimmy.
Overall, not too big of a deal with the cons. The price isn't "great" with shipping added in. But it's OK.
I wouldn't particularly recommend this item, but I wouldn't say "Don't buy this!" at the same time. Hence the 3 star.
There are probably better models.. but because amazon.com doesn't have videos to demonstrate product usage, then (I feel) we, the consumers, are left in the dark.. thinking "Hmmm... do I trust this 5 STAR! review that's probably left by the manufacturer...?"
excellent product August 15, 2008 I read the reviews before purchasing this product, and I have no trouble turning pages or adjusting books. The design is clever and you can't beat the price. I bought three of them (grad student) for research and writing. Fits easily in my backpack, too. The arms are 1.5" wide, so thick books won't fit. Most library books fit fine; you'd need a different device for something like a dictionary or other reference book.
Difficult August 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just bought this, and have been using it for a regular paperback novel. The coiled wire catches the pages, it's difficult to turn the pages, and there really is nothing to hold the book open without causing the book prop to stand unevenly.
I would recommend a book prop with a plastic back and swivels at the bottom that will adjust with you book.

disappointing March 22, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
i bought this stand to read magazines and was disappointed. it would be good for a hardback book but not a paperback. soft books fall over.
