Amazon.com Product Description -- November 13, 2007 We've been big fans of Magellan's Maestro line since it came out in early 2006. The Maestro interface is incredibly easy to use, even for those who are not completely comfortable with electronics. At the same time, Magellan was ahead of the industry with useful innovations like multi-destination routing and pre-loaded reviews for points of interest like hotels and restaurants (from AAA). With it's 3200 and 4200 series, Magellan has improved the Maestro line giving them a SirfStar III chipset that provides super-fast. satellite lock and making them thinner. In fact, at .7 inches, these are -- at the time of this writing (November 2007), the thinnest portable GPS navigators available. Distingushing between models is also fairly easy. 3200 and 4200 Family of Navigators Distingushing between models is also fairly easy. Another good Magellan with some extra options October 11, 2008 I drive hundreds of miless every day for living , and I use satelite navigation all the time I give the Maestro 4250 five stars for the following reasons It is one of the three good GPS brands ( Magellan, TomTom,and Garmin) wide screen. Metalic frame. accepts ZIP CODES and/or city names excellent reception in all weathers. smart and more logic than other brands in calculating routes.
some draw backs:
the same period of time of pause/freeze for recalculating route comparing to lower price models (e.g. Magellan Raod Mate 1200), if you're upgrading from another Magellan , don't expect any improvment.
unless you find this model on sale with a good price tag, DON'T PAY EXTRA FOR THE VOICE COMMAND AND THE BLUE TOOTH.
the VOICE COMAND is uselss, it covers only few opions and always you need a step to touch the screen, it does not work properly in compact cars with high road noise unless you stop and roll up the windows, then it will hear you well .... daaa!! I thought the voice comand is made to keep your hands on wheel and eyes on road WHILE DRIVING!!!, The only advantage for the voice comand is to SHOW OFF while having a passenger riding with you for the first time.
The blue tooth is not that good, why would you need to dial numbers from the GPS screen!! IT IS EASIER TO dial from your phone directly, some time with out looking at your phone. The Bluetooth sound quality is bad due to a single small speaker facing the wind sheild (the same GPS speaker) .. again the same problem for compact cars. any way I use my blue tooth sony car audio system to make hands free calls that's six speakers.
To help you to choose .... go for it. it is a Magellan any way, despite the the two extra options I mentioned that you might not need.
So Far, Good Product October 11, 2008 I just bought the 4250 refurb unit on Amazon. So far, it is working fine. I did have a hiccup updating the firmware, but it was easily resolved. The maps I received are from 2007, and as one other reviewer pointed out I did receive a wall charger as well as all the mounts (windsheild, dash) for the unit. Haven't done much with it yet, but bluetooth works fine and the mapping looks good so far. Have not been out with it on the road yet.
Disappointed October 9, 2008 The gps came with out dated maps, to get current maps I have to pay $80 to get the up to date maps that it should have had out of the box. It also doesn't always give proper directions. It will sometimes try to send you down a side street that runs parallel with the main steet it should have sent you.
I NEVER RECIVED THE ITEM! October 7, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I NEVER ERCEIVED THIS ITEM I'M VERY DISAPOINTED WITH AMAZON, I spoke with amazon customer services with out get in, any good explanation, and I even contact USPS with out luck, amazon should send my oreder at list with a signature was almost $250.00 money that I dont have to waste but was waste anyway, god bless you!
No Software Upgrade is Disappointing October 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Magellan units are okay, but their support is very disappointing. Also, having bought this unit for a few weeks only, you would think that they would provide you the updated software for free. They don't. And that's a big negative on my book. So any positives I have for this unit will go down the drain. They should provide free software for at least the first year you've bought the item. I suggest looking the other way and getting others instead.
