5 out of 5 stars 42" Aquos   January 6, 2009
Very pleased with the 42" Aquos. Appearance, picture, and sound are top of the line.

5 out of 5 stars Fast Delivery--parents are thrilled   January 5, 2009
Purchased "blind" as a gift for our folks. I haven't seen it, but they can't stop talking about how nice it is. Ordered on Dec. 19 and received the free Blu Ray player for them as well; the price was a great deal for the package. I was additionally shocked when the TV was delivered in less than 5 days--right on Christmas eve--"CEVA" was the shipper & I am impressed! There does seem to be a volume issue with the Aquos--my folks say it doesn't get much louder than "normal" volume. I tried to research a solution for them online & I came across a lot posts reporting the same problem with many Aquos models. I will see it in February & will re-post if there's anything new to share.

4 out of 5 stars LC42D85U   December 31, 2008
We just received the 42" LC42D85U and we're mighty impressed. My biggest worry (other than total destruction during shipping) was the banding. I have read about the 'bandoulette', some Aquos TV's have it and some don't, and so far it is not noticeable on mine, so I think this set is spared. Phew.

Speaking of shipping, we had ours shipped from 6th Ave Electronics, where they boxed the box. The outside box was pretty bashed up and the packing material allowed the TV box to rattle around inside. The TV box was perfectly fine, however, and more to the point, the TV works perfect!

It's my first LCD TV, so I'm naturally floored by the picture quality. We dont' have cable service, just rabbit ears, but the TV still found over 40 channels OTA. The Hi-Def stuff is pretty amazing, blacks are pretty black with amazing texture detail in things like tuxedos and shadows. Even the SD stuff is tolerable, but I have noticed that some of SD content (news, mostly) can looked a bit washed out. I'm convinced this is the content and not the TV.

We did have one issue where I tried to change the volume while it was changing channel (which is pretty slow) and the analog channels lost their sound. Turning off the TV from the side and not the remote fixed that.

Great TV!

5 out of 5 stars Great bargin, great TV   December 28, 2008

After doing much research, I thought this TV was a great bargin. I'm not very tech savvy but I know a great picture when I see one. I also received a free Sharp BDHP21U Blu-ray disk player when I purchased this set and am very pleased with both. I would highly recommend this product to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Sharp 42" 85U came out on top   December 22, 2008

I did a lot of research between Sony, Toshiba, Samsung and Sharp.
After much research, I wanted to have a thin, light and clear LCD.
The one that met my goals were the Sharp brand. I was thinking about the 64U and the 65U, but this new 85U has the 120Hz refresh rate to smooth out action frames.

Compare:
Toshiba models are lower end.
Sony only has one 42" model, but it weights 10lbs more and only has a 60Hz refresh rate.
Samsungs are the worst. I know more than 3 friends who needed fixing of the panel. So, the picture is there, but not the quality and durability.

Now, I ask around sharp, and I was told that CBS has Sharp lcds everywhere. And from reading reviews of the older 64U model, this seems like a great TV and durable. The 85U is also 10lbs lighter than Sony's with a better refresh rate. Also, doing more reading, starting 2009, Sharp will be making most of Sony's LCD panels.

Likes:
1) light. At 40+ pounds, I can move this TV easily.
2) I was able to set up the TV on the stand in 10 mins. The set up is very similar to the setup of computer LCD monitor.
3) speakers are flush on the bottom of the tv. So I dont have to deal with hooking up and worrying about it.
4) Picture is beautiful. In analog and HD. which is a bonus now a days since most hd tvs will show horrible analog images.
5) the stand is very sturdy. The stand is about 10lbs of metal with a nice black.

Dis-likes:
1) the remote, its like a grand father's remote. Design is awful.
2) Manual is not that good. It does not tell me the type of wall mount brackets I would need except it try to sell Sharp's version.

I would recommend it to others.
