 Totally Disappointed January 6, 2009
I read Twilight on vacation last week and was completely disappointed. I realize this book was written for young adults, but even young adults should be insulted at how juvenille it was. Setting the sci-fi aspect of the novel aside, the characters and their interactions were completely unrealistic. Anyone in HS knows better than to believe this is how teenagers behave. There was a bonfire on the beach without booze, cigarettes, hooking up or spin-the-bottle? There was talk of the dance and the prom, but no after-party or sex? It's unrealistic b/c even if the kids aren't doing it, they are still talking about it.
Aside from the problems I had with what I mentioned above, the story was poorly developed. First, Bella's character was boring, unexciting, unromantic, unEVERYTHING. It was unbelievable that nobody in Pheonix took a liking to her, but every guy in Forks fell head over feet for her? Most upsetting of all is that Edward's attraction to her wasn't b/c he loved her, it was b/c she smelled like the best piece of prime rib in the school.
My last complaint (for this review anyway) is that the author had a tendency to repeat herself throughout the novel. How many times did we need to go over the same concepts?
I don't recommend this book to anyone over 12.

the twilight series is thee best series i have read in a long time its is by far the best and is better the harry potter. its a love story in a sense i would reccomend this book series to everyone

Ihate this freaking book even though I havve not even read it. This seris should be discontinued and all other copies destroyed immediately. We do not want the whole population running around spasing out because they think vampires are real. The population is bad already. proof: This seris of books was published.
Captivating January 5, 2009
I finished reading Twilight over the weekend after seeing the movie. I thought it was a great read. This is one instance where the book is WAY better than the movie. The story is interesting and captivating. I am 30 years old and not normally a fan of this genre of book, but this is a love story that makes you feel the characters hearts beating (well the one's of them that have beating hearts) through the pages. I couldn't put it down and bought New Moon before I finished the last pages of Twilight.
I highly recommend this book!

Alright, this is my first review and let me just say that I've seen others on this site and that some people tend to get a little upset when someone disagrees with them. If you're that kind of person, don't even bother responding because I won't even be looking at this after posting it anyway. Now, that being said, I bought this book yesterday and finished it today because I read alot and fast. I have heard that it is supposed to be some sort of awesome love story and, though love stories aren't typically my thing, I was curious to see what all the uproar was about.
I won't go into the plot because everyone already knows it. Instead I'll list what was good about it and what was bad. Good first. Though this was her first novel, the author is a good writer. She knows her craft and if she truly sped through this things creation as she said, she's even more impressive. Second, the werewolves were very interesting. I was disappointed to see that they weren't used more. When the older one said that the Cullen's "never come here", speaking about their reservation, I got pretty excited. I thought the two factions might've ended up colliding by the end of the book. It never happened though. That's about all I saw for the good, so onto the bad.
First, the main character Bella is a complete and utter child and borderline moron. I believe she was supposed to come off as having some high level of intelligence but instead cannot even walk 10 yards without falling or handle any other seemingly simple task. Then there's Edward. I found him to be completely boring and borderline crazy at times. Towards the end, he behaved like a complete a-hole when it came to Bella. As if his opinion was all that mattered. And as for this "beautiful love story", I wasn't sold. The entire thing was merely blind infatuation on the girl's part, and something akin to property-possession on Edward's. Bella honestly disgusted me at times with her constant declarations of Edward's beauty and of his complete perfection. I mean really, think of the most beautiful male you've ever seen. How much moreso can Edward be than him? Beauty of his sort would assault the senses, not be pleasing to them as she feels. I said that he was boring, in fact, all of the vampires were. All of the characters in the entire book were if I'm to be honest. The only exception again was Jacob Black, because I thought he was going to turn into a werewolf. Meyer also did this annoying thing sometimes, she would use the word "he" when describing Edward for long periods of time. It sounded as if she was trying to reflect on how Bella saw him, or maybe I just read it that way. It was annoying to me though. I found myself wondering what Edward, a being of such God-Like perfection, could see in Bella. He kept saying how special she was and how she never did what he expected, yet she did do what he expected. She spent the entire novel getting herself into trouble with him having to come to the rescue. I was going to say that the last 100 pages were really good but can't because she builds what should be an incredible climax and then just blows it away like nothing. I mean, the antagonist just vanishes without any explanation and that sucks. The most unforgivable thing that I disliked about this book was Bella's incessant dwelling on Edward. She even says that he's the only thing in her life that would hurt to lose. What about your parents or your so-called friends? Does she have nothing else worth living for in the universe? I have heard this compared to Romeo and Juliet and I must say that I do not see the comparison, but I don't think that it's love the two kids feel for one another. I just quite articulate well enough what I do think it is. I get a headache just trying.
As for all the people who are saying that this is the best book they've ever read, I am appalled and question how many books you've been through. Twilight is average at its best and laughably bad at its worst. That being said, alot of the reviewers are probably teens and girls swooning over Edward. I don't believe i'm the target audience, and truthfully, if this book makes them feel the way it does, I can't deny them that. But for me, it failed and miserably. I will not be reading any more of Mrs. Meyer's books, but to those of you who like them, enjoy the ride.
